Denmark: A Kingdom of Castles

Denmark is the oldest kingdom in Europe and contains a variety of castles built by Kings and nobles all striving to create masterpieces and outdo each other. History, legends and fiction intertwine as we visit Kronborg better known in Shakespeare’s Hamlet as Elsinor, Frederiksborg built across three islands to protect the entrance to the Sound, Egeskov a Renaissance moated castle located on a lake in an oak forest, Ermitagen, a hunting lodge, and Legoland in Billund for modern replicas of many castles including Amalienborg, Copenhagen’s current Royal residence.
